LITERARY RUSSIA 

7 days

 

This tour is designed for those who are interested in Russian literature. It includes visits to apartment museums of famous Russian writers and poets and gives you an opportunity to follow the steps of world-known literary characters.

 

DAY 1 

Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel.

 

DAY 2

You will begin this day with the city tour including Nevsky Prospect, the Square of Fine Arts, St.Isaac’s Square and a visit to the lavishly-decorated St.Isaac’s Cathedral, one of the largest cathedrals in the world. You will have the afternoon at leisure to explore the city on your own.

 

Day 3

In the morning you will have a guided tour of the Hermitage museum, one of the world’s largest art museums with over 3,000,000 exhibits. You will follow the steps of Alexander Pushkin, the founder of Russian classical literature, and have lunch in the Literary Café, Pushkin’s favourite place. After lunch you will visit Alexander Pushkin Apartment Museum (Moika, 12), where he spent the last years of his life and died after his fatal duel. From the museum you will continue to “Konyushenny” Church where the burial ceremony of the famous poet took place.

 

DAY 4

In the morning you will go outside St.Petersburg to Tsar’s Village (the town of Pushkin) and visit to Catherine’s Palace where you will see the opulent Gold Rooms and the Amber Room, the 8th wonder of the world. This day your lunch will be served in the Podvorie Restaurant and will include traditional Russian “home-made” food. After lunch you will tour the Lyceum, the famous boarding school, patronized by the Royal family, where Alexander Pushkin studied.

 

DAY 5

Fyodor DostoevskyYou will start this day with a visit to Dostoevsky Apartment-Museum, where he and his family lived at the end of his life and where he wrote one of his most notable works “The Karamazov Brothers”. Then you will follow the steps of the characters of Dostoevsky’s most famous novel “Crime and Punishment” and see where Raskolnikov, Sonya Marmeladov and the old pawn lady lived. After an independent lunch in a local café you will go to Alexander Nevsky Lavra, where Dostoevsky is buried.

 

DAY 6

This morning will begin with a visit to Anna Akhmatova Apartment-Museum,Anna Akhmatova one of the outstanding poets of the Silver Age, where she lived most of her life. One of her favourite restaurants was the Stray Dog Café-cabaret, frequented  by Russian poets of the Silver Age, where you will have lunch. After lunch you will visit the Apartment-Museum of Lev Gumilev, the son of Anna Akhmatova, an outstanding historian and writer of the 2nd half of the 20th century.

 

DAY 7

Transfer to the airport.
